Iris van den Akker

Iris van den Akker is an illustrator and animator from Amsterdam. She loves colorful, graphic images that take reality with a grain of salt. She is happiest when fiddling with color and dragging with shapes and keyframes until she is satisfied. She mainly works for publishers, advertising agencies and animation studios but loves to try out new things.

Japanese Pot series

Artwork made during residency at Almost Perfect in Taito-ku, Tokyo. In this series, three examples of the use of Japanese ceramics are shown (goldfish pond, ramen bowl and Ikebana vase).
The ‘Kingyo’ illustration was also used as a cover on the Tokyoiter.

Modan Gadu

Artwork made during a residency at Almost Perfect in Taito-ku, Tokyo. Inspired by the city and its people, Iris drew a geisha letting her hair down.
Displayed as three panels during her show ‘A few hours in Tokyo’ in July 2022.

Masks shōji

Artwork made during residency at Almost Perfect in Taito-ku, Tokyo.
Inspired by the masks sold at the market stalls in Asakusa and the shoji frames that are used as doors and windows in Tokyo.
